Gryt Chat Gryt
Install Gryt Chat with WinGet
winget install --id=Gryt.GrytChat -e Gryt is a place a community sits in. The channels and roles stay put, and people drop in when they feel like it. You run the server. Point the app at a machine you control, and a spare PC in the corner counts. That is where the messages live, so there is no company holding them and no trial tier that expires. Voice goes over WebRTC through an SFU, so one server relays the audio and a call with eight people in it does not turn into eight separate uploads from your laptop. Screen sharing takes the audio with it, and video works the same way. Channel messages are stored by the server operator and are not encrypted. Direct messages sent by a client that supports encryption are end-to-end encrypted, although the server can still observe metadata such as participants, timing and file size. Your identity uses a keypair generated and stored on your device, with optional account services available for shared identity and recovery. The whole thing is open source under the AGPL: the desktop client, the server, the media server and the docs.
