Use this command to install Hydrus Network:
winget install --id=HydrusNetwork.HydrusNetwork -e

The hydrus network client is an application written for Anon and other internet-fluent media nerds who have large image/swf/webm collections. It browses with tags instead of folders, a little like a booru on your desktop. Advanced users can share tags and files anonymously through custom servers that any user may run. Everything is free and privacy is the first concern. Executable releases are available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. The program is in python, so you can also run it straight from the source code.

Hydrus Network is a media management application designed to organize and browse large collections of images, SWF files, and webms using tags instead of traditional folder structures. This tool mimics the functionality of a personal booru, allowing users to import files and tags directly from their hard drives or popular websites.

Key Features:

  • Tag-based browsing: Organize and search media by tags rather than folders.
  • Advanced sharing capabilities: Share tags and files securely through custom servers that any user can run.
  • Cross-platform support: Available for Windows, Linux, and macOS, with the ability to install via winget.
  • Privacy-focused design: Ensures user anonymity and data security as a top priority.
  • Free and open-source: Built in Python, allowing users to run it directly from source code.

Audience & Benefit: Ideal for internet-savvy media enthusiasts and privacy-conscious users who need an efficient way to organize and share their collections. Hydrus Network provides a secure, intuitive platform for managing large media libraries while maintaining control over data sharing and privacy.

README

Hydrus Network (Client and Server)

The hydrus network client is a file-management application written for internet-fluent media nerds who have large file collections. It browses with tags instead of folders, a little like a booru on your desktop. If they wish, users can easily share tags anonymously through a public server. Everything is free, no ads, and privacy is the first concern. If you have 10,000+ files and cannot find anything, hydrus might help!

Hydrus supports various filetypes for images, video and audio files, image project files, and more. A full list of supported filetypes is here. On the Windows and Linux builds, an MPV window is embedded to play video and audio smoothly. Some supported filetypes cannot be viewed directly in the client, such as PDF, but it is easy to launch any file with your OS's default program.

I am continually working on the software and try to put out a new release every Wednesday by 8pm EST. Executable releases are available for Windows, Linux, and macOS, but the program is in python, so you can also just run it straight from the source code. I am not active here on github, but I welcome feedback of any sort on other channels and will try to get back to any pings every Saturday.

The client can download files and parse tags and other metadata from a number of websites, including the popular imageboards and boorus, and some gallery sites. It can be extended to download from more locations using easily shareable user-made downloaders. It can also be set to 'subscribe' to any gallery search, repeating it every few days to keep up with new results.

The program's emphasis is on your freedom. You control everything, and the program never phones home. In the same way, it is quite an advanced program, and not a beautiful one, so it isn't for everyone. Try it out, see if you like it!

This github repository is currently a weekly sync with my home dev environment, where I work on hydrus by myself. Feel free to fork and do whatever you like with my code, but please do not make pull requests. The issue tracker here on Github is active and run by volunteer users.

Getting Started Guide

This help will walk you through installation and teach you the main systems of the program. Hydrus can do a lot, so while you can skim it, do not skip it.

The help is also included in every release.
