Caffeine Zhorn Software
winget install --id=ZhornSoftware.Caffeine -e
If you have problems with your PC locking or going to sleep, caffeine will keep it awake. It works by simulating a keypress once every 59 seconds, so your machine thinks you're still working at the keyboard, so won't lock the screen or activate the screensaver. The icon is shown above - it's the leftmost one in the task tray, and this is all you see. Double-clicking the icon empties the coffee pot (that's what the icon is) and temporarily disables the program. Double-clicking it again refills the pot, and will keep your machine awake. By default the app starts enabled, and works every 59 seconds. There are some command line switches you can use to alter this behaviour.
Caffeine is a lightweight application designed to prevent your computer from locking, going to sleep, or activating the screensaver. It achieves this by simulating a periodic keypress every 59 seconds, making the system believe you are actively using the keyboard.
Key Features:
- Minimalist interface with a single icon in the task tray for seamless operation.
- Double-click functionality to toggle between active and inactive modes.
- Default settings ensure immediate effectiveness upon launch.
- Flexible command line switches to customize behavior, such as adjusting keypress intervals, disabling screensavers, or controlling activation periods based on time or power source.
Audience & Benefit:
Ideal for users who need their computers to remain active for extended periods, including developers debugging long-running processes, gamers streaming, or anyone working with applications sensitive to inactivity. Caffeine ensures uninterrupted productivity and prevents unwanted interruptions caused by system lockouts or sleep modes.
Caffeine can be installed via winget, offering a simple and efficient solution to keep your computer awake when needed.
