UnBramble
UnBramble enables fully agentic development in the tangle of complex Unity projects.
UnBramble gives coding agents the project-wide context they need to trace the impact of a change before editing, navigating asset and code connections that ordinary code search misses. The relationship graph is built locally and deterministically, with no AI calls or agent-driven indexing, and developers can query the same data directly through a simple CLI.
Quick Start
-
Install UnBramble:
winget install --id i-snyder.unbramble --exact
-
Open a new terminal at the root of a Unity project and run:
unbramble
UnBramble will guide you through setup and grow its index.
Update later with:
unbramble update
UnBramble is agent-agnostic: it works with essentially any agent that can read project files and run commands, including Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, and ChatGPT-based coding environments. It uses no agent hooks and injects nothing into an agent at runtime. Setup adds a small static instruction block to AGENTS.md so agents know the CLI is available and when to query it (CLAUDE.md gets a shim to point to AGENTS.md when needed to ensure cross-agent compatibility). For first-time setup, if you're working in a session when you install, just ask your agent to re-read AGENTS.md to start using it in that session.
After that, new agents in that project will pick it up automatically. Work with your agent normally: it can find its way through the project whenever it needs dependency context, without you manually mapping connections for every session.
See installing for upgrades, uninstalling, or a manual ZIP installation with checksum verification. Prefer to inspect and compile it yourself? See building from source.
Built from real Unity work
I've worked professionally in games since 2008 and with Unity since 2011. I'm a Unity Certified Instructor, and I've worked with teams ranging from AAA studios to indies. I built UnBramble because I wanted to bring a fully agentic workflow to the most complex Unity project I've worked with, where even small changes can snag on dense asset and code relationships.
The stress-test real-world project has ~114k files and ~750k dependency links. UnBramble indexes it from scratch in ~90 seconds, then keeps the graph current in real time as files change.
UnBramble's design, known gaps, and tests are open for inspection; see the architecture and technical comparison for nerd lore.
Command map
Hand the map to your agent or query it yourself:
unbramble who-uses — find what references an asset, file, GUID, type, or member.
unbramble uses — find what an asset or file depends on.
unbramble dead-candidates — screen for conservatively identified removal candidates for project cleanup.
unbramble --help — see every path through the hedge.
Bug reports and focused contributions are welcome. Read CONTRIBUTING.md before opening a proposal or pull request, please :)
All the best,
